About the sources

How we choose and tell each saga, how the films are made, and who made what.

What Eurigins is

Most peoples of Europe tell a story about their own beginning: a forefather who climbed a hill, brothers who parted at a river, an animal that showed the way. Eurigins collects these founding sagas and tells each one as a short film, followed by the places and people the nation is proud of, shown as they were around 1800 or earlier. It is a gallery of stories, not a history course.

How we tell a saga

  • We follow the oldest written version we can find, and name it on the page together with its date.
  • Where later retellings added or changed something, we say so in the timeline “How the story reached us”.
  • A myth is presented as a myth. Where history tells a different story, one line says so, without turning the page into a lecture.

How the films are made

The films are AI-generated reconstructions, made with Google Flow from written prompts and, where useful, from real photographs of the places shown. Brand artwork was painted with Google Gemini image models. Costumes, buildings and landscapes aim to be plausible for the time, but they are imagined, not documented.

The dialogue is in English. Every film has subtitles in all 24 official languages of the European Union, available in the YouTube player.

Credits

  • Čechové: Czech national anthem “Kde domov můj” (František Škroup, 1834), recording by the Czech Philharmonic, provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
  • Some scenes start from photographs, paintings and recordings found on Wikimedia Commons, used under their public-domain or Creative Commons licences. Each film’s description lists them with author and licence.
  • Typeface: Alegreya by Juan Pablo del Peral (Huerta Tipográfica), SIL Open Font License.
